Beeldhouwer Dick van Wijk (Leiden,1943)

De beeldhouwer Dick van Wijk heeft de opleiding Beeldhouwen gevolgd aan de Stadsacademie en de Jan van Eyck akademie te Maastricht. De oude kapel waar Dick van Wijk zijn atelier heeft, is de voormalige werkplaats van de wereldberoemde glas & lood kunstenaar Joep Nicolas (1897- 1975). Het werk van Dick van Wijk getuigt van de zoektocht naar het combineren van geometrische met organische vormen. In het oeuvre van de kunstenaar vormt het menselijk lichaam de basis van zijn concept. De cirkelvorm is het symbool van continuïteit en ontwikkeling. Deze attributen, tezamen met verschillende diervormen, geven Dick van Wijk een breed medium om mee te werken. De materialisatie van de zoektocht kan zijn uiting vinden in brons, staal, marmer, hardsteen en glas. Daarbij vertegenwoordigt de samenvoeging van de verschillende materialen een soort van ironie en dynamiek. De gemeentelijke opdrachten van de kunstenaar Dick van Wijk kan men aantreffen in de Limburgse provincie en ver daarbuiten.

Dick van Wijk 1943

The sculptor Dick van Wijk has been educated as sculptor at the City Academy & the Jan van Eyck Academy (both situated in Maastricht, the south of Holland). At the moment he works in Roermond, situated 50 km north of Maastricht. The old chapel, in which Dick van Wijk has his atelier, was formerly the atelier of the world famous Stained Glass painter Joep Nicolas. Now Dick van Wijk claims his place among the famous artists on the field of three-dimensional art. His work expresses a never-ending research on the subject of combining geometrical and organic forms. A repeating element in the objects of Dick van Wijk is the human body, the base of his concept. The circle-shape is the symbol of consistency and newborn life. These "attributes", together with several animal shapes, gave the sculptor Dick van Wijk a broad range to work with. The materialisation of the search can be visualised in bronze, steel, marble and glass. Thereby represents the merger of the different materials a kind of irony and dynamics. The works of Dick van Wijk can be found throughout in city,s and places in the southern part of The Netherlands.
Not only museums but also governmental assignments of enormous proportions have seen the light of day. Significant work in assignment by the government, architects and others.

Dick van Wijk né en 1943 en Leiden, Hollande.

Etudes à l'Académie des Beaux Arts et à l'Ecole d'Art Jan van Eyck à Maastricht.

Depuis 25 ans il vit et travaille à Roermond. Il a repris l'atelier du maître verrier Joep Nicolas. Cet atelier a été créé en 1855 dans une ancienne chapelle. Il s'attache infiniment à retrouver le lien entre les formes géométriques et les formes organiques. Le cercle est le symbole magique et la preuve même de la renaissance. L'intêret pour les formes animales surdimensionne la palette de son inspiration. Le bronze, le fer, le marbre et le verre sont ses attributs. Ses oeuvres sont présentes dans des Musées, font l'objet de commandes institutionnelles (notamment pour le Ministère hollandais de la Défense, l'O.N.U.) "Zonne Wind" ou "Vent Solaire" fait partie de la collection du Musée Naval d'Amsterdam. c'est la vision que l'artiste a d'un bateau, faisant voile, dans le coucher du soleil.
